by John Dall Chalmers 1987
The representative of a family that has for generations been associated with the industrial life of Kinross, passed away on Thursday at the advanced age of 93, in the person of Mr. David Chalmers. A native of Kinross, he succeeded his father in business as slater with an extensive connection throughout our district and during his long life identified himself with the best interests of the town. This was largely so in horticulture, and it was largely due to the friendly rivalry which existed amongst such enthusiasits as Mr. Chalmers that Kinross Horticultural Society was for a long period of years sustained and encouraged. Deceased, up to a comparatively short time ago possessed a remarkable vitality, and was often to be met with far afield eagerly scanning the works of nature, his knowledge of plants and flowers providing many an interesting subject of conversation.
Mr. Chalmers' name is happily perpetuated in three generations and his latter days were passed peacefully under the care of a devoted daughter.
